Christine, executive director
Law and Justice Policy
I joined the department’s Environment and Resources Policy team in September 2000, after working in line agencies across the Queensland Government. I was pregnant at the time with my first child and went on maternity leave a few months later, but was thrilled to have landed a job at the hub of government.
I wanted to make a difference, to be part of the ‘buzz’ of solving problems which impacted across Queensland.
The thought of contributing to the policy advice provided to the Premier, Ministers and Cabinet of the government of the day really appealed to me. In particular, I wanted to work where I could contribute and see good and clear outcomes from my contribution.
Since 2000, I’ve encountered plenty of challenges and opportunities in my work here. Highlights have included heading up the team which reviewed and introduced the new Queensland Public Service Act in 2008 – this meant negotiating with the unions, instructing legislative drafters and working under plenty of pressure.
I’ve also been involved in the Right to Information project and the development of the Information Privacy Bill. To me, this has meant working in an area I am passionate about – facilitating good government and services for the community through improved access to information.
My future plans? For the moment, continuing with the department and new challenges, enjoying working with my fantastic colleagues.
I now have two little girls, but have always benefited from the department’s supportive work and leave arrangements – we may work hard here in Policy Division, but we know there’s support for family when it’s needed.
