Marketing development manager, Q150
When I came to Premier's in 2006, I'd never met such a bunch of hard-working people. It had been my ambition to land a job with the Department of the Premier and Cabinet while working at Education Queensland. I was almost straight out of uni, but was looking for a good opening and was really determined to make a go of it.
Since then I've had many opportunities, lots of triumphs, and a lot of challenges. On day two of the job I started organising the Obesity Summit and working on the What's Your 30? campaign.
I also worked on the Queensland on Show Expo in 2007. This allowed me to gain lots of experience in destination marketing, and a real sense of perspective about what is important for Queensland as a state.
In 2008 I was promoted to Marketing and Communication Manager for Q150. Q150 commemorates Queensland's 150 years of independence from New South Wales as a colony, since 1859.
I love my role – I do something different every day, making sure most Queenslanders are aware of Q150. This is achieved through building relationships with stakeholders, creating advertising campaigns, organising media promotions, marketing the Q150 brand consistently and working with the 15 Q150 sponsors.
As Q150 is a priority for the Premier, her Ministers and the Queensland Government, my job has also introduced me to the political arena.
Recently I've also been privileged to travel on the Q150 Steam Train to communities outside of Brisbane. As a result, I've picked up on the good news stories and enthusiasm of regional Queensland for their community and their local history. There's nothing better than seeing a year's hard work finally come to fruition.
Q150 ends in December 2009. I've had so many opportunities here at Premier's, so I hope to sink my teeth into the next big project that comes my way!
