Congratulatory letters
If you or someone you know is celebrating a special birthday, anniversary or other special event, you can request a letter from the Premier of Queensland to mark the occasion.
You can also request a letter from your local Mayor (external site), the Prime Minister of Australia, Governor-General or Her Majesty The Queen.
Birthday and anniversary messages
Letters are commonly requested for birthdays and anniversaries. Below are examples of these occasions, with information about who the letters come from and how much notice you need to give in your application.
Birthdays
90 years
Allow three weeks notice. Letters are sent from:
- Prime Minister of Australia
- Premier of Queensland.
100, 105, 110 years
Allow four weeks notice. Letters are sent from:
- Her Majesty The Queen
- Governor-General of Australia
- Prime Minister of Australia
- Governor or Queensland
- Premier of Queensland.
Anniversaries
50 (Golden)
Allow three weeks notice. Letters are sent from:
- Prime Minister of Australia
- Premier of Queensland
- Governor of Queensland.
60, 65, 70 (Diamond)
Allow four weeks notice. Letters are sent from:
- Her Majesty The Queen
- Governor-General of Australia
- Prime Minister of Australia
- Governor of Queensland
- Premier of Queensland.
Request a letter
To request a congratulatory letter:
1. Organise a copy of a verification document showing the applicant's date of birth or marriage. We accept any one of these documents:
- birth or marriage certificate (short extract or photocopy acceptable)
- passport or citizenship papers (photocopy acceptable)
- statutory declaration (external site) - certifying that the date and place of marriage are correct, signed by a member of the family and witnessed by a Justice of the Peace/Commissioner for Declarations.
2. Download and complete the application form:

3. Return the verification document and application form to your local State Member of Parliament (external site), or to us via:
