Radiology Informatics Program
Information Division
Queensland Health
The Radiology Informatics Program (RIP) is improving access to safe, sustainable health services and specialist care in rural and remote Queensland through the use of innovative technology.
RIP has delivered a tele-radiology network in the Townsville Health Service District which is enhancing the way radiology images are transferred from rural and remote health facilities and reported at major hospitals.
The program has successfully delivered the pilot tele-radiology network, which is having a revolutionary impact on health care by:
- improving the way radiology images are reported
- significantly increasing radiology reporting across rural and remote areas
- closing the gaps that exist in reporting and the time taken
- improving patient diagnosis
- improving clinical decision making around patient transfers
- improving the way clinicians work together.
All hospitals in the Townsville district are now sending images electronically to the Townsville Hospital where radiologists are then able to report within faster and clinically relevant timeframes, providing additional support to rural and remote communities to improve health care to Queenslanders.

Construction WorkHealth Initiative Pilot
Workplace Health and Safety Queensland
Department of Justice and Attorney-General
Construction unions have been concerned for some time over the general health of workers in the industry but were unsuccessful in developing a proposal and gaining stakeholder support. Workplace Health and Safety Queensland played a key role in bringing the industry together to implement a Queensland first WorkHealth program.
WorkHealth is a health and wellbeing program which, as part of a pilot, involved conducting free health and skin assessments on more than 1000 construction workers affected by issues such as obesity, smoking, excessive exposure to the sun and consumption of alcohol.
The findings have spurred cultural change within the industry, launching a number of initiatives to address these concerns. The Queensland Government has established a taskforce to provide recommendations on improving the health of outdoor workers.
