Open and transparent government

Openness in government is a cornerstone of our democracy.

Government is most open and transparent when information is made readily available for citizens about what the Government is doing and why.

That information should be current and available in a variety of formats so that everyone is able to access it.

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet can assist you in accessing information that, by right, belongs to the community. This website is just one means of enabling public access to information.

Accessing information

The Queensland Government has a new Right to Information Policy.

It promotes a culture of accountability and transparency, balanced with protections for personal information.

The Queensland public service recognises and respects that government is the custodian of information that belongs to the community. Government-held information will be released unless, on balance, its release is contrary to the public interest.

Lobbying government

Lobbyists are individuals who represent a client's views to government representatives.

Anyone intending to lobby government representatives must be listed on a Register of Lobbyists. The Register has been established to make publicly available the details of professional lobbyists who wish to lobby government.

Lobbyists must also comply with the Queensland Contact with Lobbyists Code.

By getting involved in government, citizens can enhance government's effectiveness. There are a number of ways you can get involved and help improve government decision-making:
