2009 Ideas Festival
The Ideas Festival is Queensland’s leading public ideas event. The annual five-day event aims to promote public debate, thinking and innovation across all industries and generations.
The 2009 Ideas Festival (25-29 March) had participants discussing and debate on a diverse range of issues, from science and technology to the arts, food and living to the environment.
About the Ideas Festival
The Ideas Festival is about:
- bringing together leading thinkers and audiences across different generations
- challenging ideas in new ways
- showcasing the inventive work that is already happening in government, the community, business and academia.
Presented by the Queensland Government, the festival provides Queenslanders with the opportunity to engage with local, national and international speakers and to discuss new ideas across a broad range of themes, including:
- invention and innovation
- self and society
- development and design
- ecology and ethics
- action and advocacy.
The festival offers a program of free and ticketed workshops, debates, interview sessions, master classes and a school’s program, Think Do Tank, aimed at students in Years 6 to 10.
Previous Ideas Festival guests
Established in 2001, previous notable guests have included:
- Helen Greiner, inventor of the robot vacuum cleaner
- Geoffrey Robertson QC, human rights lawyer
- Chris Jordan, environmental activist
- Charles Landry, artist and revolutionary city planner.
