Queensland Week 2009

Queensland Week was celebrated across the state from 6-13 June 2009. It showcased our people, places and achievements.

There was a great line-up of events to celebrate Queensland's 150th birthday, with highlights including the annual RACQ Big BBQ, as well as live music, comedy and entertainment. It included the announcement of the 2009 Suncorp Queenslanders of the Year, and the 2009 Queensland Greats.

Queensland Week Citizenship Ceremony

As part of the 2009 Queensland Week celebrations, the Queensland Government hosted a citizenship ceremony on Saturday 6 June at Suncorp Piazza, the Parklands, South Bank. More than 500 people became Australian citizens.

Friends, family and fellow Queenslanders were invited to support some of Australia's newest citizens as they made a pledge of commitment to their newly-adopted state and nation.

Comedy Fix

This year the Queensland Government introduced Comedy Fix as part of Queensland Week celebrations.

Comedy Fix was one of Queensland Week’s most popular events. It was a night of stand-up and satire bringing together some of Australia's favourite comedians, including Tripod, Pickering and The Kransky Sisters.

Comediennes Claire Hooper Corinne Grant also joined in the celebrations, taking to the stage with some well-known Queensland personalities and local comedians to explore the funny side of life in a comical debate about our state.

2009 Queensland Week RACQ Big BBQ

The 2009 RACQ Big BBQ included stage shows, interactive activities, inflatable mazes, workshops, singing and dancing set against the backdrop of Brisbane’s Roma Street Parkland.

With four entertainment precincts spread over both the Upper and Lower Parkland areas, the Queensland Week RACQ Big BBQ featured performances from Dora the Explorer and her friend Boots, Patchy the Pirate and Clancy, SpongeBob SquarePants, Flipside Circus and Little Frog.
