Government Response to Part B Report
The Queensland Government has accepted 177 recommendations of the 210 recommendations presented in the Part B Report - Brokering Balance: A Public Interest Map for Queensland Government Bodies - An Independent Review of Queensland Government Boards, Committees and Statutory Authorities.
The Queensland government supports the general themes outlined in the Part B Report and in particular, supports the underlying principle that the establishment of a separate government body should only occur if it is in the public interest, and that the ongoing need for government bodies must be the subject of regular review.
Of the 208 recommendations affecting the 459 bodies in review, the government accepted:
- 175 recommendations that affect 263 bodies (this includes 103 bodies being abolished and 81 subject to governance changes or pending other changes)
- 12 recommendations are supported in principle affecting 81 bodies
- 25 recommendations affecting 115 bodies are not supported or not supported at this time.
Generally, where the Government has accepted that an entity should be abolished the functions will continue to be performed, however, the objective being to place those functions where they can be performed most efficiently.
In some cases, the Government has decided that further consultation or advice is required before a final decision can be made.
