    People’s Question Time: Reconstructing Queensland

Queenslanders are facing the enormous task of reconstructing lives, infrastructure and our economy following the devastation caused by recent flooding and Tropical Cyclone Yasi. Lives and livelihoods were devastated by the events which saw 92 per cent of Queensland declared disaster affected.

Efforts to reconnect, rebuild and improve our state are being coordinated by the Queensland Reconstruction Authority. The authority has implemented a state plan outlining six main areas of reconstruction.

This People’s Question Time was a chance to ask the Premier and panellists about reconstructing Queensland and what it means for you and your community.

The discussion covered mental health, housing, building in flood zones, financial support for landlords, support for Grantham residents, road conditions, job creation in flood affected areas, food security, assistance for not-for-profit organisations, insurance and more.

Panellists for the Reconstructing Queensland People’s Question Time were:

    • Premier of Queensland and Minister for Reconstruction Anna Bligh
    • Treasurer Andrew Fraser
    • Major General Mick Slater, Chair, Queensland Reconstruction Authority
    • Greg Hallam, CEO Local Government Association of Queensland
    • Greg Goebel, Executive Director, Australian Red Cross

Journalist Lisa Backhouse moderated the session.
