Queensland's participation in international treaty making is facilitated by the Intergovernmental Relations unit of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet.

We regularly provide all Queensland Government agencies with Schedules of Treaties issued by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. We represent the Queensland Government at the Standing Committee on Treaties at which the Commonwealth Government provides briefings to the States and Territories on current treaty making issues.

We coordinate Queensland Government responses to the Joint Standing Committee on Treaties and coordinate the annual tabling of national interest analyses on proposed treaty actions. Detailed information on the Principles and Procedures for Commonwealth-State Consultation on Treaties is available in Attachment C of the Council of Australian Governments Communique dated 14 June 1996.

We also play a role in the administration of the Torres Strait Treaty through our representation on the Torres Strait Treaty Joint Advisory Council.
