Strategic policy advice

Economic Policy Division

Economic Policy is located within Policy Division in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. We play a central role in addressing Queensland's key economic policy issues including:

  • State budget issues
  • Employment and training
  • Industrial relations
  • Public liability insurance
  • Trade and industry development
  • Public works
  • Innovation and information economy
  • Transport and roads
  • National competition policy
  • Tourism and racing industry issues
  • Economic development issues
  • Energy issues

We provide strategic advice and policy analysis to the Premier, Cabinet and the Cabinet Budget Review Committee on these issues and coordinate the development and implementation of integrated economic policies, legislation and programs for Queensland.

Examples of the types of activities we have been involved in include:

  • significantly contributing to the development of the State Budget and providing briefings for the Cabinet Budget Review Committee;
  • chairing the Liability Insurance Task Force that developed a range of strategies to assist organisations affected by rising liability insurance premiums;
  • collaborating with other Queensland Government agencies to develop a Code of Ethical Practice for Biotechnology in Queensland; and
  • providing strategic trade policy advice, particularly in relation to Queensland's interests in the negotiation of free trade agreements.
