Intergovernmental Relations is located within Policy Division in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. We provide a foundation for collaboration across Government to ensure that the Premier, the Director-General of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, and the Deputy Director-General of Policy Division, are provided with timely high quality policy advice, and to build the policy capacity across Queensland Government agencies. We achieve this through coordination and the development of common systems, shared procedures and policy skills development activities.
A key focus of our work is ensuring that Queensland is well-positioned in intergovernmental relations. We do this through the support and facilitation of Queensland's involvement in the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) and Ministerial Councils, treaty making and national enquiries.
We are responsible for providing policy skills development opportunities both within the Policy Division and across Queensland Government agencies. We aim to ensure that these opportunities are well targeted, reflect contemporary thinking and address current interests and deficits.
Examples of the types of activities we have recently been involved in include:
- coordinating briefing for the Director-General for his attendance at the COAG Senior Officials Meeting;
- sponsoring the Advanced Policy Skills Development Course which provides a Masters-accredited program for experienced policy officers from across the Queensland Public Sector; and
- representing the Queensland Government at the Twelfth Joint Advisory Council on the Implementation of the Torres Strait Treaty.
