Strategic policy advice

Social Policy

Social Policy is located within Policy Division in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet. We play a central role in addressing Queensland's key social policy issues including:

  • Health
  • Education
  • Indigenous affairs
  • Disability services
  • Emergency services management
  • Arts and creative industries
  • Housing
  • Children, youth and family
  • Alcohol, other drugs, and substance misuse
  • Suicide prevention

We provide strategic advice and policy analysis to the Premier on these issues; coordinate the development and implementation of social policy for Queensland in partnership with departments, agencies, other levels of government, community and the private sector.

We aim to promote innovation and excellence in social policy in Queensland and encourage collaboration between government, business and community sectors.

We also strive to ensure that all Queenslanders have equitable access to positive social, economic and environmental outcomes from government policies and programs.

Examples of the types of activities we have recently been involved in include:

  • coordinating the implementation and monitoring of the Queensland Government's reforms to the private residential services sector;
  • coordinating activities to develop nationally consistent legislation to ban human cloning and strictly regulate research involving embryos;
  • coordinating the development of the Queensland Government's three point approach to managing the annual Schoolies Festival; and
  • working closely with the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Policy on the development of the Queensland Government's Reconciliation Action Plan.
