Honoured for returning to work

2009 Queensland Work Safe Awards and the inaugural Return to Work Awards were announced together late last year, with the Queensland Government taking out two of the awards in the Return to Work section.

The Department of Public Works rehabilitation team won the Return to Work Award in the large employer (more than 2000 employees) category. Allan Lally, Sue Torkington, Jodie Schipper and Lauren Cavello run innovative rehabilitation and return-to-work programs to support injured workers.

Lesley Crawley, a Gold Coast resident who works with Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE, won the Injured Worker – Return to Work New Employer award. Lesley's remarkable turnaround after her serious work injury is a story of courage and inspiration.

The Queensland Work Safe Awards, run by the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, and the Return to Work Awards, run by Q-COMP, were announced in a combined ceremony during Safe Work Australia Week.

Procurement one of top 20 websites

The Queensland Government Chief Procurement Office (QGCPO) Queensland website - www.qgm.qld.gov.au (external site) - has been named as one of the top 20 websites in the world of procurement.

The website, known as the Queensland Government Marketplace (external site), was one of only two Australian websites to make the list compiled by the Charted Institute of Purchasing & Supply Australasia (CIPSA).

CIPSA formulated the list on criteria including usefulness to procurement professionals in their day-to-day activities.

CIPSA described the website as providing ‘excellent examples of Australia-centric policy documents, standard terms and purchasing guidelines. The site has a wealth of procurement-related information on topics ranging from quality assurance to sustainability and more.’
