9.1 Caretaker period

The caretaker period (see Queensland Cabinet Handbook for definition and conventions and practices) commences from the moment the Legislative Assembly is dissolved by Proclamation or at the moment the term of the Legislative Assembly expires, whichever happens first. However, it is also recognised that some care should be exercised in the period (if there is one) between the announcement of the election and the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly.

The period concludes when the election result is clear, if the Government is to be returned to office or, if there is to be a change of Government, when the new Government is sworn in by the Governor.
