3.9 Office of the Minister-Role and Function

The Office of the Minister refers to the administrative unit established to support the Minister in the performance of the Minister's duties. The Office consists of the Minister and all Ministerial staff, including staff employed on a contract or consulting basis, who directly support the Minister in the carrying out of his/her functions as a Minister of the Crown.

The Office of the Minister is to:

  1. provide effective advice to the Minister;
  2. assist the Minister in the administration of the Minister's portfolio responsibilities;
  3. assist the Minister in the preparation of government policy;
  4. assist the Minister to disseminate policy and other information to the Department and the general public;
  5. provide assistance to the Minister as a member of Cabinet and a member of the Executive Council; and
  6. provide assistance to the Minister in their Parliamentary role in so far as that role relates to the discharge of the Minister's duties as a Minister of the Crown.
