7.2 Classification of Bills

Traditionally, there are two basic types of Bills:

• Public Bills - Bills that affect public policy or the public at large
• Private Bills - Bills introduced to effect a private purpose - extremely rare in modern times.

In modern times, it is more common to classify Bills according to the Members who introduce them:

• Government Bills (introduced by Ministers)
• Private Members' Bills (introduced by a Member who is not a Minister).
