8.2 The opportunity to make ministerial statements

Provision is made in the Order of Business for Ministers to make ministerial statements. At the appropriate time the Speaker will call - "Are there any ministerial statements?" and at this point Ministers rise, generally in order of Cabinet seniority, and call - "Mr Speaker I seek leave of the House to make a ministerial statement". When leave is granted by the House the Minister may proceed.

The Minister should be in possession of at least one hard copy of the ministerial statement. The hard copy of the ministerial statement should include the name and title of the Minister and a brief description of the subject matter at the top of the document.

At the conclusion of the statement the Minister formally tables the statement by handing a copy to the Clerk of the Parliament.

In order to assist in the reporting of ministerial statements, a copy of the speech on three and a half inch disks, in any of the following formats, should be supplied to the Chief Hansard Reporter:

DOS, Windows or Macintosh WordPerfect, Rich Text Format;

Word 6 for Windows or Macintosh; or

Email to hansard@parliament.qld.gov.au at least half an hour prior to delivery.
