2.1 Overview

There are five sources for the laws and rules that govern how the Parliament goes about its work:

• statute;
• Standing Orders;
• Sessional Orders and other orders of the House;
• rulings of the Chair; and
• custom and practice.

The sources of laws and rules are considered in detail below.
