State Government agencies are coming up with great ways to get the community involved in Queensland's 150th birthday celebrations this year.
Queensland's cultural institutions have delved into their historic treasures and will tour major exhibitions around the state in 2009. These include Queensland State Archives' Queensland Firsts, an exhibition of 50 rarely seen historic records and photographs and Top 150: Documenting Queensland showcasing the 150 documents that took Queensland from colony to state.
The State Library of Queensland will display historic maps in Mapping the Great South Land: from Terra Incognita to New Holland as well as historic panoramic photographs in Panoramic Queensland while the Queensland Museum's exhibitions include Queensland Stories: People, Places, Past, Present and Discover Queensland.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is asking Queenslanders to create a lasting legacy by coming up with names for some of the state's bridges under the Q150 Bridge Naming Project, which will run until December.
The Department of Infrastructure and Planning has invited Queenslanders to capture their special part of the State in the Capture Queensland: Q150 Photo Competition, open until 30 June.
In May, the Department of Public Works and the Department of Environmental and Resource Management will launch a downloadable, walking audio guide of Brisbane's George and William Streets colonial precinct.
Queensland Health is touring travelling exhibitions on the history and advances in medicine, nursing, and mental health care over the past 150 years, with many of the state's historic hospitals and other health buildings also celebrating milestones this year.
