Makeover for www.qld.gov.au
The Queensland Government website qld.gov.au has received a face-lift with a brand new design and colour scheme.
The new-look website is more user-friendly, has interactive elements, improved visibility of important announcements and features, better search facilities, improved compatibility with a range of browsers and internet connections, and handy links to online transactions on the home page.
On behalf of the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Smart Service Queensland (SSQ) administers qld.gov.au which provides a central access point and repository for Queensland Government information and services online.
Recent research identified some areas of improvement for the qld.gov.au website and resulted in the formation of the redesign project, and the launch of the new look site on 31 January 2009.
SSQ General Manager Dianne Jeans said the updated website is easier to navigate and is much more visually appealing.
'Recent usability studies indicated there was a need to refresh the visual appearance to reduce the clutter and present a clean, contemporary website that meets visitor needs,' Dianne said.
'The Queensland Government website is the main entry point for the provision of information and services for the Queensland Government online.
'Therefore, it's important for SSQ as administrators of the site to research what users want and deliver Queenslanders with a modern, user-friendly website.'
Dianne said the website has received many positive comments on its new look.
'One user said "It's very Queensland!" and another said it was a clever use of content to deliver extra relevant info - well done.'
Through SSQ, Queenslanders are able to conduct a range of transactions or get information through www.qld.gov.au (external link), by calling 13 13 04, or through the integrated service counter (currently represented by Queensland Government Agent Program).
