Honda Civic Hybrids first entered the QFleet fleet in early 2008 and contribute significantly to QFleet's ClimateSmart plan.
A greener, cleaner QFleet
The Queensland Government's fleet manager, QFleet, is well on track to achieve its target to reduce greenhouse emissions, with its fleet of cleaner and greener vehicles.
The QFleet ClimateSmart Action Plan was introduced on 1 January 2008.
QFleet's target is to reduce greenhouse emissions from its 14,000 vehicle fleet by 15 per cent by 31 December 2010, compared to its 30 June 2007 emission level.
QFleet is collaborating with its clients to reach the target, and at the end of May 2009, a reduction of 12.6 per cent had already been achieved.
While there are still 18 months left of the QFleet ClimateSmart Action Plan, QFleet is starting to look at the next phase, with plans to increase emissions reduction targets even further from 2011.
The first phase of QFleet's new procurement strategy will see its clients have access to greener and safer light, small and medium passenger vehicles. Phase two will realise improvements in the vehicles selected for large, SUV and light commercial vehicles.
The QFleet ClimateSmart Action Plan sets minimum emissions standards for vehicles to qualify for acceptance in the QFleet fleet.
These standards are based on the Australian Government's Green Vehicle Guide (GVG) Greenhouse Ratings scores, derived from their tailpipe carbon dioxide emissions - the lower the emissions, the higher the rating.
By 31 May this year, 87 per cent of QFleet's (external site) passenger vehicles and 95 per cent of its light commercial vehicles complied with these standards.
