Our Women, Our State Awards nominations open

Nominations for the Office for Women's Our Women, Our State Awards are now open.

The awards recognise Queensland girls and women who are committed to increasing the participation levels of females in the science, engineering and technology (SET) industries.

Categories include:

Female Queensland Government employees are encouraged to enter the community or public sector category.

The awards also include a special Great Queensland Woman Award, in celebration of Q150.

Winners will receive $3000, a trophy and a certificate.

Nominations close on 11 September 2009.


Find Your 30 in the Bridge to Brisbane

Get your family and colleagues together and sign up for the Queensland Government's Find Your 30 corporate team in the 2009 Sunday Mail Suncorp Bridge to Brisbane fun run.

The annual 10 km and 5 km fun run will be held on Sunday 30 August.

The Queensland Government team registrations close at midnight, Monday 24 August 2009.


Professor Ratti's Living Laboratory

The Department of Education and Training's Office of Higher Education has a new Innovator in Residence for six weeks - civil engineer and architect Professor Carlo Ratti from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Professor Ratti (pictured) is in residence from 13 July to 21 August 2009 to establish the Living Laboratory in The Studio at the State Library of Queensland.

More than a dozen of his research team from MIT's SENSEable City Laboratory and local Queensland researchers, academics and other experts will join him during his residency.

During this time, Professor Ratti will be developing design concepts and ideas to help make the outdoor working experience in Queensland more enjoyable and productive.

The initiative is presented by the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Department of Education and Training, Arts Queensland, QUT and the State Library of Queensland.
