Great year to give blood

2009 is the Year of the Blood Donor and Queensland public servants are stepping up to the plate to donate.

Earlier this year, Lucy Wight, an administration officer with Corporate Capability in the Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC), felt compelled to do something to help the Victorian bushfire victims. So she answered an SOS to become a blood donor

'I wasn't in a position to give a significant financial contribution so I thought donating blood was the next best thing,' Lucia said.

'Donating was a pleasant experience, the friendly Red Cross nurses made me feel very comfortable and it's good to know my blood is worth bottling!' she said.

Simon Carl from Corporate Capability coordinates DPC blood donors. Simon is keen to double the number of donations from DPC staff in 2009.

'The Club Red shuttle bus provides people with a regular, easy and convenient opportunity to give a most valuable donation - their blood,' Simon said.

DPC staff wishing to donate blood can email simon.carl@premiers.qld.gov.au.

Club Red has coordinators in many government departments.
