Police 'Dawgs' tackle Masters

The Queensland Police Service Masters Rugby League team (the 'Dawgs') competed in the Australian Rugby League Masters Tournament in March, at the Runaway Bay Junior Rugby League Club on the Gold Coast.

Forty-eight teams took part in the three-day tournament, an increase from 38 teams in 2008. Teams came from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Norfolk Island.

The Dawgs had a couple of wins, a couple of losses and a draw. A number of Dawgs played fill-in roles with other teams that had a shortage of players and some Dawgs competed in back-to-back games.

Masters Rugby League allows ex players over 35 years old to get back into the game and try to relive their past. All games were played in the true spirit of Masters Rugby League, which relies on fun, fitness and friendship.

Acting Inspector Phil Notaro organised sponsors and equipment for the Dawgs.
