Data technology's total transformation
The Department of Public Works will be one of the first agencies to move its CBD data centres, networks and infrastructure services to the new Tier 3 Polaris Data Centre at Springfield which opened for business on 1 May 2009.
The move is part of the Government's technology consolidation reform agenda.
Director-General of the Department of Public Works, Mal Grierson, was appointed the new Queensland Government Chief Information Officer late last year.
'Eighty per cent of my department's ICT infrastructure currently located at 80 George Street will be consolidated to Polaris by the end of August this year, with the final 20 per cent to be migrated by the end of the year,' Mr Grierson said.
'I am very keen to drive this important initiative, as there will be significant whole-of-Government cost savings as well as decreasing our CBD footprint and freeing up considerable office accommodation space for more efficient departmental use.'
The Technology Transformation Program is building the foundation infrastructure that will enable all agencies to consolidate their CBD data centres, networks and infrastructure services to one Government ICT network offering high levels of security and disaster recovery capability.
