An historical tour with a podcast guide

The Departments of Public Works and Environment and Resource Management are keeping Brisbane's history alive with a free download for MP3 players for their Q150 project, the Colonial Brisbane Heritage Walk.

Minister for Public Works Robert Schwarten and Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Kate Jones launched the hi-tech guide on 12 May at the historic Commissariat Store in William Street, Brisbane.

The walk starts at Reddacliff Place outside the Treasury Building and finishes at Old Government House, with the audio guide and a map to show visitors the way.

'This is a project close to the heart of Public Works staff, who take great pride in maintaining these historic buildings constructed by their former peers,' Mr Schwarten said.

Q150 Director Graeme Potter said the audio guide was a great addition to Queensland's 150th celebrations.

'The audio guide will take history buffs, students and visitors to our city on an hour-long tour of Brisbane's historic precinct, engaging them in a lively, entertaining and aural picture of Brisbane,' Dr Potter said.

The map and podcast can be downloaded from the Colonial Brisbane Heritage Walk (external link).
