My best day at work
Candice Butler
Name: Candice Butler
Position: Caseworker, Townsville Youth Justice Service, Department of Communities
Work: I supervise 12 to 17 year olds on community-based orders (Probation, Community Service).
Qualifications: Bachelor of Social Work from James Cook University.
Hometown: I grew up at Thursday Island, Doomadgee, Mount Isa and Mackay where my father worked in education.
Best day: Any day when a young person I'm supervising successfully completes their probation or community-service order is a good day. But my best day in the job so far was when a 16-year-old girl came to me on the last day of her probation and I was thrilled to see that not only had she not re-offended but she had commenced a TAFE course and she had obtained accommodation. I try to encourage all my clients to re-engage with education or employment and I try to give them confidence to use their abilities.
Kristen Walz
Name: Kristen Walz
Position: Project Officer, Events Coordination, Department of the Premier and Cabinet
Work: As a Project Officer I am responsible for coordinating state-wide community events on behalf of the Department.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Mass Communication.
Hometown: Gympie
Best day: My best day at work was Australia Day 2009. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a project through, and after dedicating over four months of preparation to an event such as the Australia Day 10,000 Steps Walk, it was extremely rewarding to implement all the visions I had and watch the event unfold. To actually see the benefits of your hard work through the smiles on people's faces and their eager participation certainly is hard to beat.
