Sunny future for Sunshine Coast

The Sunshine Coast Regional Council and the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which aims to create more jobs and boost industry in the region.

DEEDI Director-General Peter Henneken and Sunshine Coast Regional Council CEO John Knaggs signed the MOU at Queensland Primary Industries and Fisheries' (QPIF (external site)) South East Regional Office in Nambour.

'Our combined role is to provide direction and nurture growth of the bourgeoning Sunshine Coast, and capitalise on opportunities to boost business, skills and investment,' Mr Henneken said.

Sunshine Coast Mayor Bob Abbot said the MOU demonstrated the willingness of Council and State Government to work together to create jobs and advance the interests of the region.

The MOU builds on a previously successful MOU between QPIF, formerly DPI&F, and the former Maroochy Shire Council.

Work safe, home safe

Every year approximately 100 Queenslanders die as a result of a workplace incident, and 30,000 are seriously injured requiring a week off work.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) is holding events for Safe Work Australia Week from 25 to 31 October to raise awareness and importance of worker health and safety.

One of the health events is Spin those wheels, a campaign encouraging Queensland Government workers to ride to work as part of National Ride to Work Day (external site) (14 October).
