Reducing rental stress

The Department of Communities' Housing and Homelessness Services is offering Queenslanders on low to moderate incomes brand new homes at 20 per cent below market rent.

In Queensland, the National Rental Affordability Scheme, jointly funded by the Federal and State Governments, is managed by Kevin Bottle.

'We are encouraging applications from all eligible, prospective tenants interested in high-quality, affordable rental accommodation,' Kevin said.

'The scheme's income eligibility limits for single people, couples and families are higher than those for social housing,' he said.

Shared households with three adults are also able to rent through the scheme.

Brand new two and three-bedroom townhouses and family-sized homes are now available in Cairns, Toowoomba, Calamvale and Redbank Plains.

More properties, including one and two-bedroom units, will soon become available at Newstead, Ningi, Southport, Gympie, Hervey Bay, Logan, Maryborough and Townsville.

The Information for prospective tenants (PDF, 35 KB) (external site) fact sheet outlines eligibility criteria.
