The Department of the Premier and Cabinet is the central policy agency for the Queensland Government.

Responding to major issues

Our department plays a vital role in ensuring that the Queensland Government's policies and priorities are effective in responding to the major issues affecting Queensland.

The development, coordination and implementation of whole-of-government policy is conducted within our department's Policy Division.

Toward Q2: Tomorrow's Queensland is the Government's plan for the state's future. It sets some ambitious targets for building a Queensland that is:

Smart State Strategy

The Smart State Strategy 2008-2012 (external site) is a signature policy to create a state where knowledge, creativity and innovation can flourish.

For more than a decade the government has invested strongly in education and training reforms, research and development infrastructure and broadening the state's industry base.

This investment has resulted in 36 new research institutes and created 60 000 jobs in industries such as aviation, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and creative industries.
